Petitionary Prayer (As Understood by CS Lewis)

“Give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11) according to Lewis is prayer both allowed and commanded. Would God say no? I doubt personally doubt it. A great question therefore is presented by Lewis: “Can we believe that God ever really modifies His action in response to the suggestions of men?” Lewis continues, “For infinite wisdom does not need telling what is best, and infinite goodness needs no urging to do it.”  (The Efficacy of Prayer, Atlantic Monthly, 1959)

My wife has MS and we ‘petition the Lord everyday that she would be healed of this disease; but, as the Lord told Paul, He also tells my wife; “My Grace is sufficient for you” (2Cor 12:9)Nevertheless, we, my wife and I, stay in prayer daily; He does know and provides the best.
