“For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe in the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
I am chilled by verse 36; the wrath of God abides in him. I know a man whose sin is ‘eating’ him up. He went to Bible school, worked in ministry; yet it appears that he either never believed or stopped believing. He has very dark circles under his eyes, his weight is tilting towards obese. His wife and children have moved out. Yet, listening to him, all is just fine with him and our Lord. The sad commentary is he wants people to ‘believe’ him in his version of these last days. I’m mindful of the quote from the Roman orator Tacitus who said, “They terrify lest they should fear.”
This man is surrounding himself with people who are willing to think like him. I love him, but I can’t stand looking at him. I’ve learned long ago the word believing is not noun, but a verb. We should not be complacent with this word. Nevertheless, I am commanded to pray for him. I will.
