Great Prayers of the Bible: Jabez

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory (border), that Your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.      1 Chronicles 4:10

I was praying the other night and came to the sad realization that my night time prayers were like a broken record. I believe one reason is that I have not prayed to enlarge my “borders.”

I don’t think I’m lazy, but possibly I’m thinking I’ve ’emptied myself out’ but in reality have not. My prayers continually are one of thanksgiving; praising Him for His blessings on me. Yet, I seem to be hesitant when asking Him for what He may be ready to give me. Maybe my hands are full and there is no room for His word to enlarge ‘my border.’ This prayer by Jabez although short  was sufficient that God granted it: Immediately!

Asking Him for help as I do and “that Your hand be with me” is quite different, isn’t it?
